Meet your coach:
Mark Haverland, RFTL2 certified coach
Husband, Father, Veteran, Coach and Athlete.
I'm Mark. Back in high school, I was that kid that sat on the bench for every sport I joined. When I was in the Navy, I did the bare minimum to keep up with the mandatory fitness requirements, and lastly in more recent times, after a long shift of working construction, I would come home exhausted at the end of the day and find myself just settling for a sedentary lifestyle, binge-watching tv shows while eating what I considered to be comfort food.
Eventually I saw that I had to change how I lived my life. That's where my journey began. Over the course of the year, I lost 20 lbs of fat, gained muscle definition and felt stronger. After this initial breakthrough, I continued my journey, however, this time, I decided to focus more on how my body performed rather than on looks alone. I started to challenge myself, by running obstacle course races, and signing up for a half marathon. Intrigued by seeing what I was able to do, I found myself seeking out sources that line up with what I wanted to achieve. That led me to Raw Functional Training itself. After learning more about it, I took it upon myself to become RFT Level 2 certified. The biggest take away from it that I believe has changed me the most, is the mindset I now have. We were taught that when our mind says you can't go any farther, our body is only at 40% of what you can actually do. I realized I can achieve more than I ever thought possible, and I want to be able to share that with others.
Challenging ourselves is where we will grow the most. 1% better every day is what I work towards, and I will continue to challenge myself along the way.
In line with this concept, my biggest accomplishment so far was to successfully bear crawl an entire 5K Obstacle Course Race, where I was able to raise money to bring teddy bears to the local Childrens hospital. Each bear had a note that said, "you can do more than you believe is possible."
